My name is Chris and I'm about to graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Trumpet Performance. Unlike my peers, however, I didn't apply to grad schools yet because I have another semester to take next year so I can finish up my second degree in Econ-Stat.
Ever since I started my collegiate life I have had many moments of questioning where I'd like my life to go 4, 6, 10 years down the line. Would I end up as a professional musician, playing nightly/weekly gigs all over town or even have the amazing opportunity to play in a major orchestra? Perhaps I'd go the other way and continue my Econ-stat studies into business school and enter that field (whatever that means). Or maybe I'd end up somewhere in between? While speculation was fun, terrifying, stressful, depressing, etc. I now feel that I'm reaching a point where speculation is slowly approaching reality. The 4 years of protection my undergraduate studies provided me is quickly disappearing and now I need to decide what to do.
In the past months, my decision has been slowly forming into a strong conviction to pursue a musical career. After completing my senior recital I sat down and thought through the options ahead of me and now I am resolved to working as hard as I can to reach a goal that, even up to 4 months ago, may have seemed unlikely or impossible. This blog is a way for me to help motivate myself and keep me honest about my goals and my playing. Even if nobody reads, comments on, or hears the material I put here, I will put my work in every day and, hopefully, be able to attain my goals.
